Freedom of Religion
Abdul Rahman update: AFP is reporting that Afghan President Karzai is personally intervening in the case of the man facing a death sentence for converting to Christianity. Pressure from Western countries has been constant and there have been several signs that the Afghans were searching for a way out of this mess.
Neither AP or Reuters is reporting Karzai’s intervention as of yet, however. I’m still hopeful that something can be worked out.

It’s just a shame that they haven’t realized, after their recent experience with the Taliban, that a country which allows one religion to dominate will never be part of the modern world.
The price of course is poverty, disease, illiteracy.

Well, they are still learning this stuff, Mike. The interesting thing is that while they have Sharia as part of their constitution, they also have a recognition of the treaties promising freedom of religion. As far as I know that is the only Muslim culture that has that in their constitution. I rather hope they can sort it out.
