RIP Buck Owens
Country music legend Buck Owens has passed away at age 76. He died at home, the cause of death was not immediately known. Owens had more than 20 number one records during his long career. He was also the only country music star to have one of his songs covered by The Beatles, 1965’s Act Naturally. Owens was the long-running host of the television show Hee Haw.
He was one of the real pros of the music industry. Rest in Peace.

I didn’t know him, but I don’t like him.

Why? From all reports (I did not know him personally) he was very professional, believed in actually earning his fees to perform and was well respected as a decent person not afflicted by “star syndrom”. I watched him perform (on TV) a few times, he was a solid musician and had great rapport with a crowd, a good showman.
That’s why I called him a pro. I am a player myself and respect true musicians who earn their pay.
And even though I am not a big fan of country music, he actually wrote some pretty decent lyrics. “Act Naturally” is actually a pretty good take on stardom in general. It’s not great literature, but it’s not bad either.
Act Naturally
Buck Owens
They’re gonna put me in the movies
they’re gonna make a big star out of me
We’ll make a film about a man that’s sad and lonely
and all I gotta do is act naturally
Well, I’ll bet you I’m gonna be a big star
might win an Oscar you can never tell
the movies gonna make me a big star
‘Cause I can play the part so well
Well I hope you come and see me in the movies
then I know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time
and all I gotta do is act naturally
We’ll make the scene about a man that’s sad and lonely
and beggin down upon his bended knee
I’ll play the part but I won’t need rehearsal
all I gotta do is act naturally
Well, I’ll bet you I’m gonna be a big star
might win an Oscar you can never tell
the movies gonna make me a big star
‘Cause I can play the part so well
Well I hope you come and see me in the movies
then I know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time
and all I gotta do is act naturally
