Those Wacky French!

Well, it’s getting ugly over in Gay Paree at the moment. Reports are that more than one million protesters turned out because of the new law that would allow employers to fire new employees during the first two years of their employment.

I’ve never had a job where I couldn’t be fired in the first second, but who am I to judge….

Gateway Pundit (does that guy ever sleep?) as usual has a really powerful roundup, including the welcoming committee that was waiting for the protesters at the end of the march. It seems some of the thugs folks from the suburbs were waiting for the slackers protesters to arrive so they could beat the hell out of them and steal their cellphones. He’s even got videos of the festivities! And of the water cannon!

This should be a wake-up call for the French and the Europeans in general that socialism is a completely unworkable system. As if.

Hey, don’t sell yourself short. Your production is pretty impressive too, even if you don’t know a buster from a snot.

As for the French, the issue is high unemployment, and they prefer it remain high rather than give up freedom from accountability. Because it’s almost impossible to ever fire a new employee, French employers are very hesitant to hire anyone unless they absolutely can’t avoid it.

The new law, making it easier to get rid of unproductive workers during the first 2 years, would be a powerful incentive for reducing French unemployment, which is twice US levels. Employers would be much more likely to take on new workers if they didn’t have to guarantee a job for life. However, the jobless French would rather remain at home, collecting benefits, than take their chances in an adult world.

Yup, it’s easier to hold on to the same failed socialism than to actually fix anything.
