Nebraska CCW Passes

Despite an attempted filibuster, the Nebraska legislature finally passed a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) law. The governor has promised to sign the bill. The new law ia a "shall issue" law, meaning that if the defined standards are met, every law-abiding citizen will get a permit. (In other words, local authorities cannot act capriciously to stop the permit). The only exception is within the city of Omaha (which actually has a separate CCW law on it’s books). Only Wisconsin and Illinois have no carry permits, although 10 of the states that have permits actually make it a practical impossibility to actually get one.

Nebraska’s law does not recognize reciprocity. (All you kiddies with Utah non-resident CCW permits pay attention here!)

The linked post, by David Kopel of the Volokh Conspiracy, gives a really good rundown of laws nationwide.
