Or how the angry left stays angry. This is a really fascinating post on a new-to-me blog. The author gives quite a lot of documentation to explain why anger and negativity are bad for you. The discussion of "mirror neutrons" and "emotional contagion" are really good.
Just the issue of emotional contagion explains a few things everyone has seen happen. I think everyone must know someone who can walk into a room and just by being there, suck all the life and energy out of the place. And I'm sure everyone knows someone who can bore you before they even open there mouth. Emotional contagion helps explain road rage. However, even before there was theory, there was Bill Joel:
And there's always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he's never been able to learn from mistakes,
So he can't understand why his heart always breaks.
But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell-
And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man.*
Well, I for plan to spend some time exploring over at a new found site with some good articles.
