The Mother Of All Backfires

Gee, It's just great that May 1st is now a "a date when workers around the world often march for improved conditions" Now. It used to be the communist day of celebration. As in Soviet. As in marching and demonstrating to overthrow a government and install a communist replacement. But, hey, no matter. This May Day, we're being told we must grant full amnesty and citizenship to all illegal immigrants. Here's what one of the organizers says:

"There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno," said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it weighs the issue.

"We want full amnesty, full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally)," Rodriguez said. "That is the message that is going to be played out across the country on May 1."

Nice! You're organizing illegals to demand their rights to citizenship in a country they committed a crime to get to!

I suspect you haven't a clue what backlash you're going to generate, Jorge. Not a clue. A few illegals is sympathetic. An invasion is war. Guess which message you're sending?

I'm starting to smell a few things right now. The old techniques the Soviets used. Mass demonstrations, useful idiots and outside agitators. Sound familiar? Houston, we have a problem.

CANCEL THAT LAST POST

John Hawkins has reported that the Damned hospital just reneged on the deal. They appear to think the heat is off.

I think they need to see just how much attention they can get in a very short time. In a VERY polite way – do not raise your voice. Remember, the person you talk to on the phone will not be one of the people pulling this. They are just in the middle, so be very polite.

Here's all the contact info. Please call – be very, very polite.

Andrea Clark – A Life Saved

PLEASE READ THIS POST – THE HOSPITAL RENEGED ON THE DEAL

Although I still am appalled at the law in Texas that permits hospitals to execute people, at least one life has been saved. Maybe the people of Texas will get cracking on repealing what is nothing less than state-sanctioned euthanasia, with hospitals and insurance companies deciding who dies.

But Andrea Clark is being sent a long way from home to save her from these butchers health care professionals. In a way that's good, since they can't kill her now.

Please read the thank you letter posted at Right Wing News. It's really quite touching.

It was never about politics for me.

This Is Governing The Country?

Eleven members of the US House of Representatives, all Democrats, are filing a lawsuit against the Bush administration. The issue is a deficit reduction bill signed by Bush. The eleven congressmen allege the bill was illegal because the house and senate passed different versions.

Are you kidding me? This is how we're going to be governed now? By lawsuit? Over a TYPO?

"Once again the administration is playing fast and loose with the Constitution," Conyers said. "Anyone who has passed the sixth grade knows that before a bill can become law, both Houses of Congress must approve it."

A version of the bill that was narrowly approved by the House on Feb. 1 contained a clerical error. That error was fixed when the bill was transmitted to Bush, who signed it Feb. 8.

The White House and House and Senate GOP leaders have said the matter is settled because the mistake was technical and top House and Senate leaders certified the bill before transmitting it to the White House.

Ron Bonjean, a spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., called it "another attempt by the Democrats to stop us from trying to stop spending. They'll go to all ends of the earth to make sure that Americans have less money in their wallets."

This is the John Conyers who should be an embarrassment to the House. If they actually had  scruples. Or even one scruple they could pass around and share. Too much to hope for, apparently.

Mollohan In The Spotlight

The FBI has notified three non-profit organizations formed by Rep. Alan Mollohan that they can expect subpoenas for financial and other records. Now why the heck they telegraph that, I have no idea. One would think it would be bad technique to warn a target. One can just envisage the shredders running around the clock. But I digress.

The nonprofits at issue are the Vandalia Heritage Foundation, the Institute for Scientific Research and the Canaan Valley Institute. The F.B.I.'s notification to them has occurred over the last two days and signals that the bureau is looking deeper into the 500-page complaint, which among other things suggests ties between the special appropriations, or earmarks, and Mr. Mollohan's personal real estate investments.

Mr. Mollohan's office did not return repeated calls yesterday. Nor did Vandalia's president, Laura Kurtz Kuhns, whose ownership of vacant lots on Bald Head Island, N.C., with Mr. Mollohan and their spouses is a prime focus of the conservative group's complaint.

I don't think I've heard one single Democrat use the culture of corruption meme lately. Gee, I wonder why?

Walls, Fences And Boundaries

The Real Ugly American has an interesting post up on his site. It's worth a read. It's about boundaries….

Viva La (Blue Crab) Revolucion

Apropos nothing whatsoever:

Propaganda Campaign Begins!

We reported on the movement in Spain to give apes equal status with humans. In that article they mentioned that the same group was going to open a campaign to get the UN to recognize the same rights. We here at Blue Crab Boulevard aren't real big believers in coincidence…

Today we have Pamela Anderson writing a guest op-ed in the Opinion Journal entitled "No way to treat a relative." (She's speaking for PETA here, by the way).

King Kong is my hero. He's big, muscular, sensitive, a terrific actor–and he's not real. The use of computer-generated imagery has really taken off in Hollywood. So why has Madison Avenue suddenly gone bananas for real apes? Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, with at least 95% of the same DNA. We're closer to them than they are to gorillas, so when I see chimpanzees being used as on-screen comedians, dressed up in silly costumes to sell credit cards, I think, Is this any way to treat a relative?

Well, the relatives are making a break for it, Pam. Be on the lookout next time you go to Sierra Leone. My favorite part of this article:

I've vowed never to be involved with a production that uses live apes because I don't want to be a part of this cruelty, and I bet you don't either. Let's drop the curtain on ape "actors" by sticking to animatronic animals or willing human performers for our ads. It's not like there's a shortage of struggling starlets willing to embarrass themselves if it means getting on TV.

We wonder if she made this decision after the break-up with Tommy Lee.

Inquiring minds boggle.

Removing Roadkill = Shuttle Safety

Officials from NASA are encouraging employees to report any roadkills they see. No, it's not to provide raw material for the cafeteria. The goal is to get grounds crews out to pick up the fresh-pressed critters before they attract vultures. They hope that by reducing the food source, the vultures will go somewhere else looking for dinner.

What prompted this was that a vulture hit the fuel tank of the shuttle Discovery as it was being launched. The bird did not cause any damage to the shuttle. No word on what the shuttle did to the bird. Although we suspect they called a grounds crew shortly afterwards……

Cyber War

You know, I thought something was weird today when I suddenly couldn't get to some of the sites I read regularly. Michelle Malkin is reporting that there has been a DOS attack on the Hosting Matters servers. Many big bloggers use that company including Instapundit and Captain's Quarters. LGF managed to stay up because it was on a different server than the others.

The DOS appears to have originated out of Saudi Arabia.

Jihad is coming to your home computer…

Gas Bags

I think Krauthammer hits it just right today.

If you thought the Dubai port deal marked a record high in Washington cynicism, think again. Nothing can match the spectacle of politicians scrambling for cover during a spike in gasoline prices. And this time the panderfest has gone all the way to the Oval Office. President Bush has joined the braying congressional hordes by ordering the Energy and Justice departments and the Federal Trade Commission to launch an investigation into possible gasoline price fixing.

Panderfest, I like that term. It describes exactly what is going on these days in Washington. Screaming, wailing and gnashing of teeth, essentially over what amounts to nothing, really. Meanwhile, nothing is being done to secure the border. The press cooperates and screams about gasoline prices while mostly painting pretty pictures of happy, hardworking immigrants if they cover that issue at all.

We get panderfests instead of real problem solving.

On Polls And Illegal Immigrants

Last night I received a phone call from someone identifying himself as a Republican pollster. He wanted to know what I thought of the job George Bush was doing. Normally, I hang up on pollsters of any sort on general principle, but this time I answered. I told him I wasn't real happy with Bush at the moment. Unfortunately, that effectively ended the phone call before I could tell him why.

I'm unhappy right now because of the illegal immigration issue. I'm unhappy with a wide open border that nobody in our government seems to care about. I'm unhappy with people who are here illegally marching and demanding political power. I'm unhappy with a rumored pending Senate deal that effectively will give illegals a leg-up toward getting citizenship ahead of people who have waited patiently for a legal chance to come here. I'm unhappy with a State Senate endorsing illegal immigrant protests and sneakily declaring their support for open borders.

I'm also unhappy with the proponents of open borders calling anyone who opposes them a racist. Because opposing illegal immigration is not a racial issue to me at all. I could not care less where people are from and what color their skin is. I care very much that they come here legally and that they become Americans, not a permanent underclass with a different language and culture.

Sweden Belatedly Discovers Spine

After caving in to Muslim pressure and shutting down a website that showed the dreaded Mohammed cartoons, Sweden appears to be learning what wages appeasement earns. A Muslim organization is now calling for separate laws to govern Muslims living in Sweden.

For once, at least so far, the Swedish Government is flatly refusing to allow that to happen.

"We will not have separate laws in Sweden. In Sweden, we are all equal before the law. In Sweden, we have fought for a long time to achieve gender-neutral laws, and to propose that certain groups should not be treated like others is completely unacceptable."

Orback said he had spoken to representatives of the Swedish Muslim Council, and they did not support the association's position.

"We have freedom of speech, we have the right to opinions and we have the right to make proposals – but if a law is going to be changed, it must be the same for everyone."

Asked whether the proposal plays into the hands of racists, Orback said that it did.

"I think it is very problematic and unfortunate that people who have been in Sweden for so long make proposals such as this that are so opposed to our intentions, when we are fighting for women's rights and the right to divorce," Orback replied.

Let's hope they continue to be strong about this. This is exactly what the entire manufactured uproar over the cartoons was about. A foot in the door to force changes in European governments to further separate the Muslims from being assimilated.

Here’s Some More Pulitzer Material

The Washington Post will be in the early running for next year's Pulitzer with this kind of ground-breaking, fearless reporter on their team.

During a briefing led by White House spokesman Scott McClellan as President Bush was traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana, the Washington Post's Jim VandeHei asked why the White House televisions always seemed to be tuned to Fox News and if it was possible to have them tuned instead to CNN.

"It's come to my attention that there's been requests — this is a serious question — to turn these TVs onto a station other than Fox, and that those have been denied," VandeHei told McClellan, who is soon to be replaced by former Fox anchor and self-described conservative Tony Snow.

That's the way to speak truth to power, Jim. This is American journalism at it's best! He also complained that the televisions were purchased at taxpayer expense, therefore they should be tuned to whatever the press wanted.

My kids are more mature about deciding what to watch. I think this demonstrates how fundamentally unserious an awful lot of reporting is today.

By the way, it only took a few minutes to get the channel changed.

Well, At Least They Reported On It

One of the things that consistently bother media critics these days is the way the economy is being covered. Record low unemployment and a robustly expanding economy get almost no coverage. But boy, oh, boy does the cost of gas get ink! You'd think there was nothing else of import in the world right now if you're reading the MSM.

Today, the New York Times actually does cover the expanding economy. An astonishing 5% growth rate in the first quarter. They really can't seem to help themselves though. Here's the start of the article:

Gas prices are rising, as are mortgage rates. House prices in many once-hot markets have started slipping. The American automobile industry shows no sign of recovery. And the paychecks of most workers have not even kept up with inflation over the last four years.

The story goes on to detail a very bright economic picture, but you would not know that from reading that opening, would you? But at least they are reporting on it and not completely ignoring it.
