Well, At Least They Reported On It
One of the things that consistently bother media critics these days is the way the economy is being covered. Record low unemployment and a robustly expanding economy get almost no coverage. But boy, oh, boy does the cost of gas get ink! You'd think there was nothing else of import in the world right now if you're reading the MSM.
Today, the New York Times actually does cover the expanding economy. An astonishing 5% growth rate in the first quarter. They really can't seem to help themselves though. Here's the start of the article:
Gas prices are rising, as are mortgage rates. House prices in many once-hot markets have started slipping. The American automobile industry shows no sign of recovery. And the paychecks of most workers have not even kept up with inflation over the last four years.
The story goes on to detail a very bright economic picture, but you would not know that from reading that opening, would you? But at least they are reporting on it and not completely ignoring it.

The first paragraph got me too. Imagine reporting the really good news only after they report the alleged bad news. Sadly, it no longer surprises me.
I was speaking with my mother this morning and she told me that she doesn’t understand how the economy can be as bad as the Media reports it to be when she sees help wanted ads everywhere and the stores full of people buying. Yet, her spanish speaking television news station Telemundo reports on the dire state of the economy every day -that’s why she has been under the impression that the economy is tanking. I think my mom is finally believing me when I tell her the Media doesn’t always report the truth/facts unless it suits their agenda.

Frankly, they outright lie a lot these days…
