I see that Bush has come out firmly for singing the national anthem in English. Well, that's at least something. Frankly, it's darn near the only thing he got right this week on that issue. I'm hearing that this so-called Spanish language anthem is pretty badly translated, but I'll have to take the word of experts.
Bottom line, it's totally disrespectful to sing a national anthem in another language, I think. I don't believe I've ever heard of such a thing. One of the major problems with the wave of illegal immigrants is their complete failure to assimilate and become Americans. Why is it that a British music producer even made this silly recording?
Money of course. He didn't do it to "honor immigrants", he did it to try and line his pockets. All the controversy surrounding this helps him sell even more.
UPDATE: New York Times coverage. More or less a straight take, it does bring up this being a way to throw a bone to the conservative camp over the immigration issue. I don't think it's quite that calculated, nor do I think it will placate very many people.
