This Is Exactly Why We Need A Fence
Mexico has passed legislation to decriminalize possession of drugs. The supposed rationale is that this will free up resources to go after the big dealers.
"This law provides more judicial tools for authorities to fight crime," presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said on Friday. The measure was approved earlier by the lower house.
Under the legislation, police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin or 500 milligrams of cocaine.
Uh Huh.
Notice in the story how the Mexican government blindsided the US with this.
The legislation came as a surprise to Washington, which counts on Mexico's support in its war against drug smuggling gangs who move massive quantities of cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamines through Mexico to U.S. consumers.
A delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives visited Mexico last week and met with senior officials to discuss drug control issues, but was told nothing of the planned legislative changes, said Michelle Gress, a House subcommittee counsel who was part of the visiting team.
"We were not informed," she told Reuters
Just read the description of the warfare among the drug gangs to "control the routes" into the US. Anyone still convinced that a fence is a bad thing? We're having what appear to be border incursions by the Mexican Army protecting drug shipments.

So do you have a problem with this proposed law or not? It sounds like you have a problem with the Mexican military and with immigrants, but it doesn’t sound like you have a problem with this bill in particular. It also sounds like you don’t believe the Mexican government’s rationale? In which case, what do you think thier real reason is for decriminalizing “personal-use” drug possesson?

Yes I have problems with the law on many levels. The Mexican government at the moment appears to be more and more controlled or at least heavily inluenced by the drug gangs.
