Polls

I think this is the first time I can remember when a "new record low poll numbers" article has mentioned something I've been saying for a long time. The approve/disapprove type questions capture both extremes extremes equally. Those that do not like what the president is doing and those that do not like what he is not doing get counted equally.

So, the polls are indicating Conservative and Republicans are unhappy, but for different reasons than Democrats. That spells a huge problem for Republicans. The public wants action on illegal immigration, and they do not want amnesty. The Republicans need to listen to that. I know a guy who is a very active Conservative who worked the phone banks for Bush last election. When we spoke last week, he was very unhappy with spending and especially with Bush's stance on immigration. That was a deal killer for him. Losing the support of someone like him should scare hell out of Republicans.

The one thing the Democrats better be a bit concerned about in this poll is that the planned use of a "throw the bums out" based campaign stands a good chance of backfiring. Given the appalling numbers for approval that all of Congress has, a good number of Democratic bums may get caught in that net.

Ah wishful thinking. Its a wonderful thing.

No matter that it flies in the face of common sense, and all experience with real elections. Heres a hint for ya Gaius. When people are disgusted with the way power is exercised, they throw out the bums exercising that power. The dems, who have been obstructing (to use a phrase that y’all might be regretting now) the decline will be rewarded (especially given that they tend to be representing districts that are, if anything, even less inclined to ever vote for a Republican than the average district).

    We’ll see.
