United 93

Just a quick update. Box Office Mojo reports that as of May 18th, United 93 grossed just under $27 million dollars so far. The production budget for the movie was $15 million. None of the other top five movies have yet reached the break-even point, much less made an almost 100% profit. United 93 may not be a super-colossal, mega-ginormous hit, but a 100% return on investment in three weeks is pretty darn nice. We could use a return like that around here, the drapes are getting shabby in the Crabitat.

Hey Hollywood! Anyone listening out there?

I was a bit reluctant to see the film considering the emotional reviews that many bloggers gave it. But it was fantastic and sad all at the same time.

I bumped into a soldier on leave last weekend and we were talking about it. He had not seen it. I had just come from the theatre and highly recommended it. I hope he did.

This film illustrates better than any politician, or speech that WE, all of us, every American are in a war. It’s not because of our ties with Israel or oil or any of that other nonsense. They are out to kill US and they don’t care whether we voted for Bush or the man in the moon.

The last scene was the best as the passengers repeatedly smashed the serving cart through the cockpit door. It was as if a giant was slamming it’s fist repeatedly through that door with the strength of a nation behind it.

It’s a reminder that this nation cannot be defeated by any enemy. But also, that we must be U N I T E D to gain victory and the peace that flows from it.
