What The Heck Is Going On?
Could people just stop injecting politics into every event? When has it ever - ever - been acceptable to make political speech at graduation ceremonies? It is supposed to be a celebration, not a chance to harangue a captive audience.
This is that lemming like march to the left that will cause the Democrats a lot of damage in the long run. The middle will not tolerate this behavior.
And yes, it's a shame the audience did get vocal. It's even more shameful to turn what should have been a day of celebration into something that people will remember with anger for the rest of their lives.

So, it’s appropriate for John McCain to deliver a political speech at a commencement address, but not Lacy Clay?
And notice the difference in the reactions. At the New School, John McCain was met by a speech that refuted him point by point. At the University of Missouri, St. Louis, Lacy Clay was booed and he needed to be escorted out by security.
It looks to me like it’s the conservatives are rude. Liberals actual challenge a conservatives ideas, while conservatives just drown out the liberal.

His speech wasn’t political.

Democrats have become so out of touch with the American people, so unable to accept the results of being rejected at the polls, so pathologically infected with hate and envy, they no longer have any moral compass to sound the alarm against inappropriate demonstrations of loathsome behavior in public.
So consumed with hate have they become that hijacking the ceremonial rite of passage of college graduates is insignificant when compared to their sick obsessions.
Democrats are blind to the consequences of their hysterical arrogance and deaf to the voices of moderation and restraint. They are a party bent on self-destruction and nothing is going to stop them, not reason, not compassion, not good manners, not elections, not love of country, or even the urge to self preservation.

McCain defended his support for the war in his speech. That’s political.
By Gaius, Tuesday, 23 May , 2006 @ 1:17 pm
And that’s a harangue comparable to what this clown did? Give me a break. Did McCain attack anyone? Did the explanation of why he supported the war figure into his speech?
That would be a no and a yes.

Why is it, that everywhere I go people say : The other party is evil, out-of-touch, arrogant, blah-blah-blah…
Why can’t they see, that both “side” - if there is such - wants to get to the other side of the mountain, just choose a different path to get around it.
The goal is the same.
Hell, people see reason for god’s sake.
Every political party is the same. Every political party has the same amount of honest and not-so-honest people.
Though I think most of the people need an Enemy, someone to hate all the time, no matter what. It just seems to be one of those things.

I’m not a Republican, Roland. The Democrats ARE out of touch when they drift farther to the left. The drift to the left is what has eroded their support for the past 30-40 years.

I was not refering to you.
If you read carefully, I was not saying Republicans or Democrats.
In my experience this “the other boy started it!” and “I am right, so you are wrong” is applicable to both sides.
Surfing the web, I would say that “far sides” of both Democrats AND Republicans are out of touch.
Extremists are always bad news for a cause - be it left, right, green, civil rights, cyclist rights, whatever - and it is not a US or a France or a [name of your country goes here] only problem.
I experience it everywhere.
I think the problem starts when you begin to divide the world into “liberal” and “conservative”, “left” and “right” as if the world were like that.
In some areas I am a liberal, in some areas I am a conservative.
Though, to be upfront, and honest, and to not deceive anyone I am not a US resident. In fact I live in Europe, just happen to have a lot of american friends - republicans and democrats -, and a - maybe more than - healthy amount of interest in the US events.
And the political scene mirrors the one in my country to such an amazing degree…
Oh, and before I forget. The previous comment was inspired mainly by Black Jack. And still, it was not a criticism, or anything like that.
Just thinking aloud.

Ah, ok. You are quite right that the fringes are out of touch and are bad news to any political party. And though my more left-leaning commenters won’t agree, I see a lot more embrace of the extremists among the Democrats than the Republicans.
By Roland Hesz, Wednesday, 24 May , 2006 @ 11:29 am
Of course the left-leaning commenters won’t agree.
After all, extremism is relative. If I lean right then I see less right-extremists, as I define myself as the zero, so even some of the right-leaners will count as left-leaners in my opinion - and you can substitute left for the right if you wish.
It all boils down to the egocentric nature of the human being
And of course I am right, so you must be wrong.
The cave ate the emperor.
