And This Is Why
The Democrats are just not getting the traction they think they should have. Representative Jim Moran, a Democrat out of Northern Virginia made this statement:
Moran, D-8th, told those attending the Arlington County Democratic Committee's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner on June 9 that while he in theory might oppose the fiscal irresponsibility of “earmarks” – funneling money to projects in a member of Congress's district – he understands the value they have to constituents.
“When I become chairman [of a House appropriations subcommittee], I'm going to earmark the shit out of it,” Moran buoyantly told a crowd of 450 attending the event.
Colorful language and campaign hyperbole aside, Moran has a lot to gain if Democrats topple the GOP's 12-year control of the House. His relative seniority of eight terms would make him a powerful member of any Democratic majority.
Now I have a bunch of drive-by commenters dropping by one of my earlier posts that Daou Report linked. They are firmly convinced the "culture of corruption" meme is a real winner. They really should pay attention to how the public looks at all politicians when one comes out and says things like this.
The "culture of corruption" looks an awful lot like "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" to the average voter.

If you believe that the Culture of Corruption meme is a loser for DEMS…why would you not encourage them to do it….
If and when the “liberal media” decides to lay out the ENTIRE case against the legions of corrupt Republicans (Cunningham, DeLay, Savafian, Abramoff, and soon to be Jerry Lewis) we will see what Americans really think come Nov. 2006

You seem to assume I am a Republican.

It’s a sure loser for some Dems, but maybe more so for one Dem than two others.
Don’t fall for the misdirection play. This “culture of corruption” meme is only the establishment Democrat Party’s trick to get Hillary Clinton out of the race for the nomination in 2008.
Could there be any other motivation for raising an issue which so exposes the Democrat Party to such obviously accurate ridicule?
Here, the interests of AlGore, and John Kerry coincide. Both want to eliminate Hillary early, and what better way than to raise the “corruption” issue which, they hope, is sure to provoke the GOP into knocking Hillary hollow, and out of the race.
And, all the while the old boys keep their skirts clean so the Dem faithful won’t catch on and blame them. Cute, very cute.

Interesting theory. I still don’t think they will get traction with it, though. They may damage a few individuals (perhaps rightly, perhaps not) but I don’t see it working nationally.

This is why the term ‘politician’ has such a bad connotation that has nothing to do with party affiliation. Both parties have their share of turds like these. Both parties sullied the reputation of politicians in general. Both parties need to clean up their act. And the voters need to hold BOTH parties accountable on an INDIVIDUAL basis. ‘Dirty pool’ isn’t partisan. It’s an individual character flaw.

In response to rr455f’s comment:
We WANT the Democrats to continue on this path to destruction. We just like to point the way.
As my father-in-law says, “Evil has within itself the seeds of its own destruction.” Hypocrisy is a big evil in the eyes of the electorate.
