A report by the Israeli Defense Forces concludes that Israeli artillery was not the cause of the explosion that killed a number of Palestinians on a beach in Gaza. There have been a number of bloggers who have been questioning the media reports of this event almost from the start. The Palestinians have done this sort of thing in the past and the MSM has happily assisted. It looks like another Bollywood production.
According to the findings, expected to be formally released on Tuesday, shrapnel taken from two wounded Palestinians who were evacuated to Israeli hospitals showed that the explosives were not made in Israel, IDF officials said.
Moreover, the investigation noted the absence of a large enough crater at the site of the explosion, as would be expected if an IDF shell had landed there.
The third observation casting doubt on the possibility that IDF shelling was the cause of the Palestinian deaths was that the IDF had accounted for five of the six shells that it fired in the area before the explosion and the shell that was unaccounted for was fired more than 10 minutes before the blast that killed the Palestinians.
Contrary to what you may have learned watching cartoons, artillery shells do not stop and hang around in mid-flight for ten minutes or so. They also leave substantial craters when they hit. Those two facts plus the inconvenient fact that the shrapnel did not come from Israeli shells means the Israelis simply did not do this. The fact that the media reported the "outrage" of Hamas with a straight face is an indication of how twisted news coverage has become.
UPDATE: More from the Big Lizards.

Gaius, I think you meant Pallywood (which I believe is the reference to Pallestinean propaganda machine). I saw something about ‘Pallywood’ over on Malkin’s site. Bollywood is usually a reference to India’s film/TV industry.
Is it Pallywood, or Pollywood? I don’t remember.
You are right about the article, though. Check out Atlas Shruggs sometime. She unloads on this stuff.
I think you’re right, I got that one wrong – Bolly would be the Indian. Pally would be the Palestinian version.
But Bugs Bunny would be proud of the cartoon physics lesson.
So would Willy E. Coyote. No, wait. Actually, I don’t think he’d get it (until too late).
