Facelift And Anniversary

To celebrate her blogoversary, Alexandra at All Things Beautiful did a bit of nip and tuck to give her site a new look. Then she went and restarted with a post about Kos!

Deep rich velvet 17th Century 'Fortuny fabric' reds and deep burnished golds, was my original idea, and it has been quite a task to achieve it in the modern world of html. The film I had in mind was 'La Reine Margot', and her spectacular wedding dress….

Onto matters at hand so to speak, and the unhappy trio of John Hellemann @ The New York Times Magazine, Joe Lieberman and Markos Moulitsas Zuniger of the Daily Kos, and the controversial editorial published in their latest issue.

As my blog buddy Rick pointed out in an email, I haven't invested in a "look" for the Crabitat. Looking at what Alexandra did, I'm afraid to try!

Nice job, Alexandra.

  1. I haven’t invested in a “look” for the Crabitat.
You will. Sooner or later, Kubrick will bore you to tears.

Yeah, I just have no skills, so I either have to get some help or hire a designer.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Your site’s look is just fine. The type style isn’t messy and it’s almost big enough to read comfortably, and it’s not overloaded with sidebars and such. But, if you’re determined to improve it, please consider a “Recent Comments” feature like Patterico’s. Otherwise, to the extent you’re willing to accept suggestions, leave it alone.

  4. Gaius says:

Well, you’re easy to get along with!

  5. There are at least a hundred templates out there that won’t break you.

Go whack trying on new suits!

Thanks guys I am really flattered.

There is a lot to be said for simplicity and clarity though like Jack said, and you have chosen my favorite color in that respect. Blue is calming, chic and serene, and I desperately tried to include it in my color combo, but it just did not work out.

Gaius, I am self taught, but if I can help in any way, I would be delighted. You have my e-mail address, let me know. Adding another shade of blue as well as this one would be a bonus and would add depth to the top bar. I could do something in photoshop and send you the url, so instead of having the title only you would insert the link to an image of the top bar with perhaps just two shades of blue and the name. Just playing with the idea…..as if I am short of things to do…hahahahaaha

Alexandra, I am overwhelmed. I thank you for making the offer. One of the best things that has resulted from me starting this blog is some of the wonderful people I have met by doing so.
