Rumors Redux
Val Prieto at Babalu Blog has been trying to run down the rumors about Fidel Castro being dead. Still no luck, but a lot of odd things going on right now:
We're going on day four of the latest fidel castro is dead rumors. Here are a couple more uncorroborated reports and speculations:
- Hugo Chavez supposedly took an "urgent flight" to Cuba yesterday afternoon along with other high ranking Cuban officials. Details or news accounts of same unavailable.
- Granma once again published articles profiling Raul Castro, heir apparent to the dictator throne.
- WHPC reports that there is much action in Cuba at the moment, with reports from Granma stating that workers are "waging a fierce battle" in attempts to have construction and other related project complete for a huge July 26 island wide celebration. WHPC also speculates that said projects and celebration and construction may be some kind of secret preparations for an elaborate state funeral for the bearded dictator.
- Ive also received unconfirmed reports that castro may not be dead, but suffering from Parkinsons or Alzeimers and not in control of his mental faculties. (natch)
There's more. Go over and have a look.

So they’re going to keep Fidel on ice until they get the funeral ready?
Well we can only hope it’s true. And maybe we could get really lucky and have poor little Hugo Chavez’s plane go down in the Caribbean.

I’m running the risk of sounding mean and heartless but I’m going to write it anyways - I hope that he is dead. I know many Cubans who have escaped his tyrannical rule and they will be rejoicing upon hearing news of his demise. Hopefully his death will also be a harbinger of the imminet demise of the decrepit and decaying communist government of Cuba. One can hope

Wild speculation (maybe even material for a novel) follows:
Cuba and Venezuela announce a merger. Sort of a Soviet Union of America. Fidel gives head of Cuba to Raul or maybe even someone younger, sits as lifetime honorary member of “politburo” of the new federation. Chaves takes the reigns as head of the federation, turns over Venezuela to someone else after national referendum to approve new government configuration which he wins because he controls the electronic voting machines. Federation aligns with North Korea and Iran creating a new member of the Axis of Evil less than 100 miles from our shores.

Actually, sounds like a stroke or something to me. People tend to linger for a while.
