Breaking News - Soldier May Be Released
Flash traffic from Yahoo news says that the release of the kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, may be imminent. The report says that Mahmoud Abbas is reporting that information.
ROME - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday there could be an "imminent solution" for the release of an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants. A spokesman for the Hamas military wing quickly denied the assertion.
"With regards to the issue of the abducted Israeli soldier, I have reiterated that there are ongoing efforts that lead us to believe in an imminent solution," Abbas said, speaking through a translator.
Abbas spoke at a news conference after meeting with Premier Romano Prodi. The Italian leader was by his side.
Interesting if true. One never knows with the Palestinians, however.
