Flash traffic from Yahoo news says that the release of the kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, may be imminent. The report says that Mahmoud Abbas is reporting that information.
ROME – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday there could be an "imminent solution" for the release of an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants. A spokesman for the Hamas military wing quickly denied the assertion.
"With regards to the issue of the abducted Israeli soldier, I have reiterated that there are ongoing efforts that lead us to believe in an imminent solution," Abbas said, speaking through a translator.
Abbas spoke at a news conference after meeting with Premier Romano Prodi. The Italian leader was by his side.
Interesting if true. One never knows with the Palestinians, however.
