Kos And Effect

So, after much uproar, after all the storm and fury after all the money, time and talent spent the Kos Kids have their very first scalp.

And the scalp belonged to a Democrat.

The party they have chosen to support has become the main course at a banquet. I believe it was the very first post I wrote about this whole Connecticut primary that I titled 'Cannibals". And the feast is on.

For all the effort, the Kos folks were able to squeak in with less than 4% of the votes. Enough for the win, sure. But not enough to keep Lieberman out of the general election. And so more political blood and literal treasure will now be spent contesting what was, and still should have been, a safe seat. Instead of trying to expand the Democratic party held seats in Congress, they'll now be fighting to hold the one seat they think they can take. From a Democrat.

I've said all along that this was appallingly bad strategic thinking, I have seen nothing to change that opinion. This was and will continue to be a foolish battle at a foolish time. I suspect that Lieberman will make this a brutal fight for Lamont and his supporters. The fury of the left will increase and we'll be treated to even worse thoughtful satirical images than the Hamsher blackface item. Oh and the tasteful gay porn themed things.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Democratic party will shudder at what has happened to them. I happened to catch a little bit of an interview on Fox News with Susan Estridge (actually the first time I have watched the channel in months now). She said something about the party needing to embrace the anti-war left. I'm on the record as saying that is a recipe for disaster for the Democrats as a national party.

I still think so.

I especially liked the bit on Hannity and Combs last night. Combs was in Lamont’s HQ, and some classy Lamont supporter held up a sign, on camera, that read ‘Hannity sucks a**’.

Classy. Congrats to the Dems. You’ve really reached a new low.

    Cannibalism is an appropriate term.

Surely the Anchoress didn’t mean to say Blue Crap Blvd., she’s much too nice.

They’re screwed. If you’re a pol like Hillary or another senator, what do you do now? Kos and his buddies have proven they have just enough muscle to beat you, but not enough to help you win. Do you kiss up to them? Do you fight them? And where does this leave Soros? He may have soured on spending his money with Kos’ campaigns, but now he might be tempted back into it.

    Thank God it’s not us.

All in all, a very good day for the Evil Karl Rove. The dumbass democrats will move left for the fall, leaving the center easy pickin’s for the Repubicans.

It’s far too early to say that the Dems are finished, but even my Mom and Dad, both dyed-in-the-wool Dems (in CT, no less) are NOT happy with what the party’s done to Senator Joe.

My own hunch is that within the next few years, the only party loyalists remaining will be so far to the left of center that we’ll effectively become a single party nation with the GOP dominating.

This will lead to centrist Democrats forming a viable third party, and quite possibly picking up some (very) moderate GOP members. The GOP and this new party will form the new two-party system, with the Dems being relegated to third party status.

Then again, I never thought the compact disc would ever replace vinyl. :-)
