Israel Declares Lebanon Situation “Explosive”

Israel's Foreign Minister is warning that the situation in Lebanon is reaching an "explosive" level and is pleading with European powers to deploy peacekeepers.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora urged the United States to help end Israel's sea and air blockade, and said his country was making "every effort" to secure its borders.

"The United States can support us in putting real pressure on Israel to lift the siege," the Western-backed Saniora told reporters.

Tzipi Livni met with French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy in Paris to discuss a U.N. Security Council resolution that called for an end to more than a month of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, bringing a shaky peace to the region.

"Time is working against those who would like to see this resolution applied," Livni told reporters after talks with Douste-Blazy. "We are now in the most sensitive and explosive position."

"We therefore need extremely quick action from the international community," she said.

Livni visited Paris less than a week after the French disappointed the United Nations by pledging only 200 new troops to the peacekeeping force in Lebanon.

The French double-dealing is threatening the ceasefire they worked to impose on the region. There are reports that Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israeli troops, prompting responses by Israel. This is looking fairly grim at the moment.

Well, despite the ceasefire Israel is shooting at the Hezbollah troops, and the Hezbollah is shooting at the israeli troops.. Prompting responses is… well, they did not need prompting. Ceasefire agreement notwithstanding, both sides kept on shooting.

Both side claims to have a “valid reason” to do this.
