Clang, Clang, Clang Goes The Jimmy

Empty pot continues making noise. Jimmy Carter continues his bash-a-thon.

The former president told a crowd of about 300 on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno today that the nation is more sharply divided that it has ever been as a result of Bush's policies.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, he says he's deeply embarrassed that the American government now stands convicted around the world as one of the greatest abusers of civil rights. He continued the theme in a dinner speech to 700 at a Democratic fundraiser tonight, saying every past president has been a supporter of human rights, until this one.

Yeah, up until now past presidents have rarely made any public statements about current or former presidents, either. They've actually had a little class. Lord knows Jerry Ford could have had a whale of a time bashing your execrable performance in the office, Jimmy. It wouldn't have been any challenge at all finding things to criticize, either. But then, empty pots just have to keep clanging, don't they, Jimmy?

I guess his Nobel peace prize was for nothing then. It’s really easy for us armchair philosophers to make our positions this way or that. Lucky for us that we aren’t stuck in baghdad where the sound of electric drills and screams pierce the walls of plenty of houses cellars.

Considering that the board that awarded it admitted they did it specifically to take a slap at the US, the prize wasn’t for nothing exactly. That they considered awarding it to Carter because it would be a slap says quite a lot, doesn’t it?

what a load. typical loosers that cannot find ONE positive thing to say about their heros in the white house…so attack an ex-president that left office more than 25 years ago.

not only is the nightmarish party over come november…but all of the real traitors will be cast into the lake to wail and gnash their teeth.
clueless, mindless sheep. god help you.

    Apologies to ee cummings:

    Jimmy Carter is an arse,
    Upon which everyone has sat,
    Except a man.

It’s amazing to me, a man born in 1970, to see how many people have demonized Jimmy Carter. Jimmy wasn’t responsible for Vietnam. He wasn’t responsible for Iran-Contra. He didn’t take us to war on false pretenses. Yet he’s talked about as if he raped a nun on national television.

What is with Republicans demonizing people? Imus says Hillary Clinton is “Satan” and Al Gore is almost as bad? For what? You people are so filled with fear and hatred, you just HAVE to have devils on which to blame everything.

It’d be funny, if you people weren’t so damned numerous and dangerous!

  • By Gaius, Sunday, 1 October , 2006 @ 1:58 pm

You’re too young to understand what he did in any meaningful sense.

  • By Black Jack, Sunday, 1 October , 2006 @ 7:12 pm

Clavis, you’re correct, it wasn’t Jimmy Carter who got us into Vietnam on false pretenses, it was another Democrat president, Lyndon Johnson who’s responsible for doing that. But, it was before your time, so you get half credit.

And, you’re partially correct, Carter didn’t rape anyone, again it was another Democrat president, Bill Clinton who did, but it wasn’t on national television. However, Clinton did go on national TV to wag his finger in our faces and lie about a different sort of “sexual relation” with “that women.” So, you get half credit for almost getting it right, I’m feeling generous.

And, you score yet again. Hillary Clinton isn’t Satan, she only acts like it, and lots of us old dogs do think Algore is almost as bad. So, full marks there.

However, my generation doesn’t hate either one, we just want to expose them for the self-obsessed and dangerous, megalomaniacs they are. But, we do fear they may be able to fool the younger generation into supporting them, especially products of the public “education” system. No credit.

I’m going to overlook your last remark because it’s a push. We feel the same way about your generation. No credit.

    Black Jack…
Actually, since you’re an “old dog” perhaps you’re old enough to remember that it was Eisenhower, not Johnson, who first got us involved in Vietnam with his “advisors.” You lose half a mark there.
Also, Bill Clinton was never convicted of rape. You lose a whole mark there.
And as far as self-obsessed, dangerous megalomaniacs, you don’t have to look six plus years back to find that in a president. No credit.
Also, your condescending response, with grading system included, I’m actually giving you ten points for, because it perfectly illustrates the kind of infallibility in your own belief system that makes younger Americans distrustful of your ilk. Thanks for proving the point!

    Cfs,

Not so fast there whippersnapper. If you’re set on going back beyond the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, don’t overlook the role of Democrat Harry Truman who rebuffed Uncle Ho’s attempt to establish Vietnamese Independence following the defeat of the Japanese at the end of WW2.

FDR had supported Ho’s fighters against the Japanese occupation, but FDR died and Truman subsequently refused to deny French efforts to reestablish their colonies in SE Asia.

Of course the French were defeated at Dien Bien Phu, in 1954. Eisenhower only came into the mix after Democrats had been running American foreign policy for 20 years.

Agreed, Bill Clinton wasn’t convicted of rape, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t do it. OJ wasn’t convicted either.

My “belief system” isn’t at issue, facts are facts, and they are accurate and relevent or not, nor are facts subject to wishful thinking or youthful fancy.

I’m not infallible, just more experienced. Younger Americans are free to form their own opinions, and they can put their trust where they think it belongs. But, remember, one day you’re going to be an old dog too. Try to be patient when some intolerant young person reveals his arrogance.

But, to your credit, my comment was condescending and you were right to call me on it.
