Naval Air Station Lakehurst

BubbaB, one of the regulars around here, had no idea that the US Navy actually had an active airship program until he read about the discovery of the wreck of the USS Macon off the California coast. I've known about the airship program for just about forever, I think. It's one of those odd things I picked up somewhere along the way. So with the wonders of the world wide web (courtesy of Al Gore) I dug up some information on NAS Lakehurst, the large airship facility the Navy used to have in New Jersey. Here's some good information about airship tactics as they evolved. (Bonus, they have specs for the USS Macon ZRS-5). And finally, here's the US Navy photo page on the USS Macon.

Your history lesson for the day. There will be a test.

My Mom lives n Whiting, NJ, near NAS Lakehurst. That hanger if frickin’ HUGE! And when the c-130 transports are launching and landing her house feels like it’s gonna fall apart.
