Never Missing An Opportunity

To miss an opportunity. That has pretty well described the Democrat's uncanny ability to turn silk purses into sow's ears year after year. They are doing it to themselves again right now in Tennessee. If they had simply kept quiet about the television ad paid for by the RNC that skewers Harold Ford, Jr., it would have been a mildly successful ad that might have changed a few minds to vote for Corker. Instead they have pulled out all the stops going on a full-fledged frontal assault on the ad. The usual voices are piping up saying the ad has "racist" implications. The ad does not, but now the people on the attack have ensured that the ad will go viral and be seen by far, far more voters. Those voters will be able to see that a) the ad is funny, b) the ad is NOT racist and c) that there are serious reasons not to vote for Ford.

So the attackers have virtually guaranteed that what might have been a mildly successful ad that changed a few minds will become a wildly successful ad that will devastate Ford at the ballot box. Furthermore, it may well cause damage for Democrats elsewhere.

Running as the party of the perpetually outraged is not going to convince people to vote for you.

UPDATE: The Corner agrees this was a bad, bad move.

I came here looking for my fix of Republican naivete. Thanks for only making me go as far as the third post from the top.

Yep, the shrieking delirious choke artists will start to see their hysteric agitprop flimflammery turn against them.

Sort of like the Bills and the Vikings in the Super Bowl, the neurasthenic Dems always drop the pass, strike out, miss the free throws, and generally choke because deep down inside they are LOOOOOSERS!

  • By Dan, Wednesday, 25 October , 2006 @ 12:56 pm

so you realize that you really spelled a word closer to ‘looser’ than ‘loser’, right?

Also, I don’t think you can strikeout or miss free throws in the Superbowl. Just as a point of interest. This is exactly the kind of misinformation that makes the Republicans so untrustworthy and stupid.

  • By Gaius, Wednesday, 25 October , 2006 @ 12:59 pm

    You’re out of line, Dan.

Well, no, come to think of it, the Democrats are the loosers: They have looser ideals when it comes to ethics, they have a looser view of history than reality warrants, they are looser when they are coddling terrorists, they let loose with the whines when they lose, etc.

In tight races the nutsroots…not without reason…says that many undecided voters look on the web. Hence the “google bomb campaign”. I agree with Gaius, it will go viral, You Tube hits will soar and Ford will suffer. The latest angst from CBS is sure to help.

I’m out of line? Does that mean you think you can strikeout and miss free throws in the Superbowl?

Why don’t you go rent a sense of humor? For all the different ways you let people skewer Democrats, maybe stop being such a hypocrite for five seconds.

  • By BubbaB, Thursday, 26 October , 2006 @ 1:11 pm

Yah, Dear Dan, I think Gaius was talking about calling the Republicans, “untrustworthy and stupid”, and making a mountain out of a molehill.

Which is another favorite past-time of Democrats. But I digress.

We skewer Republicans, too, even our beloved President Bush, EBUH (Eloquence Be Upon Him.) Besides, renting a sense of humor is expensive. (Actually, the rental is cheap, it’s the damn insurance they make you buy.) It’s cheaper to find an intern, and use his or her sense of humor. (Or, as Clinton showed, you could use other skills the intern possesses, but again, I digress.)
