Credibility Problem
Why the Democrats have a credibility problem on national defense, part 2,578. John Kerry on America's soldiers:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
There is this vast amount of contempt for the military within the Democratic party. They continually refer to the people in the military as 'children'. They routinely paint them as having joined the military out of financial desperation, lack of education or a lack of ambition. Kerry is one of the contenders for the 2008 nomination and he speaks for a large part of the party.

Really, when I thought he couldn’t make himself less likeable – he goes and proves that he is beyond pathetic and despicable. Unbelievable. John Kerry is a disgrace to this nation. No wonder many in the military think he hates them.
On a personal note, my husband CHOSE to be in the military and made the decision when he was an undergrad – he now holds a Masters Degree. He CHOSE to be in the military because he believes in defending this country during peace times and in times of war. My husband like other military service members know how important this freedom is – something John Kerry seems to take for granted.

The right blogosphere is so desperate for something to divert attention that they’ve seized on the misquoted remarks of someone not even running for office. Hilarious!
I feel bad for them, so let’s give ‘em this one…I promise not to vote for Kerry next Tuesday unless he apologizes!
By Gaius, October 31, 2006 @ 1:59 pm
Or are you so desperate to defuse it that you lie and say they are misquotes? Because he is right there on video saying those exact words.
By Ed, October 31, 2006 @ 2:53 pm
You know it’s not tough correcting you guys, I guess you were C students also. Add the one word “us” and you see what he’s saying:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get “us” stuck in Iraq.”
With how Bush mangles the English language, you really want to hold Kerry to account for skipping one word?
By Gaius, October 31, 2006 @ 2:58 pm
Even if he had meant that (and you are just trying your best to spin that) he completely blew it by his over the top attack. He just cost Dems a lot of votes and the more honest Dems know it.
By Ed, October 31, 2006 @ 3:38 pm
It may fire up some GOP voters (though those who are OUTRAGED are pretty well just the partisans anyways) and Bush/Snow’s comments trying to make it an issue may just fire up more Democrats/Independents.
I don’t think it’ll effect much.
By Ed, October 31, 2006 @ 3:40 pm
And I don’t think I’m spinning it. I’ve heard he’s used it before, unmangled, in other speeches. If a tape surfaces of it, this tempest will die out quickly.

We’re just looking for a reason to be outraged aren’t we?
Everyone knows full well it was a flubbed line. Even O’Reilly thinks so.
But if you’re desperate for fodder for your daily two minute hate then by all means gnash your teeth and scream your lungs out.
By Gaius, November 2, 2006 @ 7:25 am
Apparently, you have a reading comprehension problem, Jose. This is a two day old post you’re commenting on.

Seems John Kerry was stuk in veeyetnam long before anybody was ever stuck in Irak.
