Nifong Asks To Be Removed

Durham, North Carolina District persecutor Mike Nifong has asked the state's Attorney General to take over the dropping of all charges in the Duke lacrosse rape charges. It isn't exactly phrased that way, but that will be the upshot.

A source close to the investigation said Nifong sent a letter to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper asking his office to assume responsibility of the case. Calls to the Attorney General's office and Mike Nifong's office were not yet returned.

Three Duke Lacrosse players, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans were indicted in 2006 on charges of rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping.

We heartily second the motion and also ask the North Carolina Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor to look into official misconduct on the part of Mike Nifong. The best part, Nifong won't even have to be nifonged! It will be legitimate!
