No Joy
This is not something I take any pleasure in reporting. Al Gore III, the son of the former vice president and current climate Cassandra hysteric has been arrested for possession of drugs. He was arrested after getting caught screaming down the highway in his Prius at 100 miles per hour.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The 24-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore was arrested for drug possession on Wednesday after he was stopped for speeding in his hybrid Toyota Prius, a sheriff's official said.
Al Gore III — whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming — was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff's deputy at about 2:15 a.m.
The deputy smelled marijuana and searched the car, said sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino. The search turned up a small amount of marijuana, along with prescription drugs including Valium, Xanax, Vicodin, Adderall and Soma. There were no prescriptions found, he said.
Gore was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and booked into the Inmate Reception Center in Santa Ana, about 34 miles south of Los Angeles, on $20,000 bail. Although he quickly identified himself as the son of the former vice president, Amormino said Gore received no special privileges.
I started out writing this post trying to describe my relationship with my own father, then decided not to publish that right now. Maybe someday, but not now. I'll just point out that Al Gore III may have, consciously or unconsciously, timed his actions at a time or in such a way as to do maximum damage to his father.
I have not exactly made a secret of my opinion of the father here. I think Al Gore is a hypocritical, lying opportunist trying to line his pockets at the expense of this country and Western civilization in general. (See Roger Simon's slam on the sins of the father, so to speak). But Gore III is an adult and one cannot help but think he did this for maximum impact. Whether he was planning it on a conscious level or not. This arrest will detract from the self-aggrandizement of Gore the father's concert extravaganza in only a few days.
UPDATE: Used the term "cassandra" improperly, which is why I should not post after a long day in the hot sun.

This arrest will detract from the self-aggrandizement of Gore the father’s concert extravaganza in only a few days.
But for only a few days. Al’s true believers will forget this, or take it as a sign of their hero’s sacrifices for their sake. I agree with Roger: if Al truly cares about his son, he’ll withdraw from public life to help him.

He won’t. If he did my opinion of him would have to improve at least a litle.
But he won’t.
(And Al’s sycophants pay no attention to the strip-mining energy-hog’s excesses that already are obvious. So no surprise that they will dismiss this as well.)

Gore’s kid’s behavior represents nothing but a culture of death. His behavior should be scorned, and rightly so, no matter the relationship to the father, or the timing to do damage.

Damn! I didn’t know a Prius would go 100 mph.

The networks and PBS mention the Gore III’s getting busted, though they neglect his rap sheet on drugs and other unreported stuff like his getting kicked out of St. Alban’s—like his father Al III was a snitch and a miscreant at the same time and heartily disliked by his fellow students, as he was snobbish even by St. A standards which are world-class.
Poppy Al Gore II’s strange inability to get into law school has never been examined by an MSM avid for every sordid detail of your average Repub candidates CV. The urban legend is that he had what used to be called a massive “crack-up” during his college years—the lefty MSM has helped him cover up these factoids which would be fine by me had the MSM been even-handed in its cover-up mode. Maybe Al has been hiding electroshock treatments like Eagleton in ‘72 or some psychiatric history not conducive to presidential stature. Probably not, as even the MSM would have unearthed such nuggets with their truffle-snuffers.
Personally Al II is actually a decent guy and went out of his way to greet my 6-year old daughter in the White House Mess when he was on crutches due to a basketball Achilles-heel incident.
But he has constantly played his hand as though he has a Full House even though every time he is unmasked, it’s been a busted flush!
The secret sins of the fathers are passed on to their kids, which is why I fear for my now 18-year old daughter!

? Oh, you must live in that town from Footloose. I understand. Just so you know, smoking weed isn’t uncommon outside your town limits. It’s like dancing: I know you think it’s sinful, but it’s just not that big a deal.
Please, reconsider your decision to ban the prom.

So tooling down the highway at 100mph while high on a cornucopia of drugs is celebrating life?

Al Gore III, the son of the former vice president and current climate Cassandra
Cassandra, of course, was cursed with always predicting the truth and never being believed - until it was too late. I can’t think of a better description for Al Gore.
I’m curious - did you actually know who Cassandra was when you wrote that?
By Gaius, Thursday, 5 July , 2007 @ 8:46 am
Actually, yes, I was familiar with the myth, but used it improperly. I had forgotten I had even used it until you pointed it out.

Riiiiight. Sure.

In modern literature Cassandra is seen more as an insane babbler whose disjointed ramblings are only seen as the truth after the event happens. Twenty years from now the adherants of St. Al will be saying “See? Al was right, the sun _is_ making the world hotter! He was right all along.”
The other question is whether Bubba was Al’s Apollo.

Gaius,
The great thing about the blogosphere is the incredible knowledge base that is created by the ‘netizen’s collective mind, the fact checking they do, and the willingness of the best bloggers…unlike the MSM…to acknowledge and admit mistakes.
There are some that think that people who express an opinion should be perfect, and who use the imperfect nature of man to advance their own agenda. Sad, really.
Perhaps the phrase better rewritten:
Elymas works far better.
