How many political dissidents did Summers hang? How many women were stoned to death during his tenure? How many gays did he have executed? Apples and oranges and a false syllogism. Disagreeing with someone's politics is not the same thing as giving a bully pulpit to the representative of a brutal regime. That is a complete non-sequitur.

Not permitting diverse points of view to be presented is a ridiculous stance for students to take. Then why bother to get an education if you only want to hear what you already think? We don't have to agree with Ahmedinejad, or with Summers, but do have an obligation first to hear what they have to say. I think Summers should have been allowed to speak at U Cal – Davis and I also think that Ahmedinejad should be allowed to speak at Columbia.
