Imagine if aggressive crocks were taking out of the mating pool for a period of time, say a year or two. This means that the more docile crocks would have more mating opportunities than would the aggressive ones. So over time, one might get a population of more docile crocks by simply keeping those who can't behave locked up away from the females so they can not pass their behavior along to the next generation. Conjugal visits would mess the entire process up, though. Actually, there might be something to that.
