In Kim Stanley Robinson’s trilogy “Red Mars”, Green Mars” and “Blue Mars”, Hiroko is the name of the leader of the “greens” segment of the party of 100 colonists to Mars. Mars is terraformmed into an inhabitable world. One tool they us is carbon-fixing, benthic cynobacteria.
The other side were the “reds” who wanted to keep Mars pristine. In the book anyway the reds were terrorists.

Thanks for the good work Gaius and Cedric.

Lying in a believable way to try and discredit those that believe the lies. A really stupid thing to do. The people attacked become victims rather than fools. The attacker discredits himself most of all, but his very act smears the side he is defending. Some good scientist may even have participated in the fraud by writing the article.

Now, are we sure that this isn’t some elaborate attempt to smear the AGW believers as frauds? After all, it has gotten national attention. Even Limbaugh could be involved, after all he cited the fraud, and then quickly corrected himself, followed by punishing himself with the reward of a day off. (hee hee)

Crossing, double-crossing, triple-crossing, once it gets started there is no end in sight.

Thorpe admits to participating in the hoax but claims another wrote the copy. See his myspace account; he is quite proud of his lie.

Just a further thought. Thorpe is described as being resident in Machynlleth. Curiously, noted British climate alarmist – and I mean hysterical alarmist – George Monbiot has recently moved there in search of the rural life. Like I said, just a thought…
