Indeed, Gaius, that is NOT a compliment. Generally (and I’ve had it said in my presence) when you use the term ex-Marine in front of a Marine he/she will immediately and forcefully respond, “There’s no such thing as an ex-Marine”. For them to refer to Murtha as an “ex-Marine” means that he is being completely and totally disowned and disavowed.

I think it was over at Redstate where one writer said that Marines he knows refers to Murtha – every time – as an ‘ex-Marine’. That is not a compliment.

The problem is that the vast majority (not all) of liberal Democrats have never served in the military. Thus, they have no idea what the US Military is capable of achieving. Worse, their entire view of the military is that they are corrupt, baby killer, criminal sociopaths (Thank you Viet Nam era Liberals). Add to that a complete lack of historical knowledge (they don’t like facts that contradict their world view) and it is completely understandable that they would bet against America and American forces.

They have no clue that the American military they are betting against doesn’t exist and that the America they are betting against is an America that only exists in the liberal mind – not the America that became the most powerful and compassionate super power in the history of the world and did it in less than 200 years from her inception.
