The Beast Of Bolivia Strikes Again

Not Bolivia the nation, Evo Morales isn't in this story. No, we're talking about Bolivia, North Carolina here. A mysterious, unidentified animal has been munching its way through various pets in Bolivia, including the latest incident where a family's pit bull was savaged. At least five dogs have been killed so far - and nobody has a clue what animal is doing this.

Residents in the Midway Road neighborhoods of Brunswick County are fearful the so-called Beast of Bolivia has returned to threaten their pets.

An unknown predator attacked a pit bull Tuesday afternoon at the residence of Shelby Sellers, who lives on Albright Road off Midway. Sellers returned home from work at the Brunswick County Government Center to find the family's 3-year-old pit bull mauled, with claw marks and wounds on its hindquarters and paws.

She rushed the dog, named Rosie, to a veterinarian's office in Supply.

"This had to happen during the day because the dog stays in the house at night," said Joey Brown, a family friend of Sellers and her 10-year-old daughter, Shana. The girl discovered the injured dog, shivering and bleeding, on the front porch of the house when she came home from Bolivia Elementary School.

"Rosie's back end was sliced, and so were (her) paws," Brown said, as if the animal had tried to fend off the attacker. As he spoke, Sellers was with the veterinarian tending to Rosie's wounds.

"She's going to make it," he said of the dog.

Brown said two puppies reported missing earlier by Sellers' neighbor were found dead Monday, apparently killed in an area behind the two houses on Albright Road.

In mid-September, three dogs were confirmed killed by an unknown predator in the area of Midway, Brown and Gilbert roads.

People are speculating that it could be a panther, a cougar, a really big bobcat, a black bear or a wolf. But we are fairly certain it is none of those things. Here at Blue Crab Boulevard, our long history of calm, thoughtful reporting on all things related to animals is legendary, if not completely fictional. We covered the Demon Hell Hound of Turner, Maine with our trademark insight. We provided careful analysis of the Hellspawn Deer of Lafayette, Louisiana. Most recently, we covered the Galloping Goatsuckers of Cuero, Texas.

Our considered judgment is that the creature who carried out the attacks is none other than an Ivory-Billed Bigfoot Elvis.

Maybe we have another bearwolf on the loose? Got to consider all the possibilities.

Sorta sounds like a case that happened a couple of years back here in Salt Lake. Seems some cats in a particular neighborhood were turning up dead, with only part of the corpse left. The local papers got a hold of the story, and began interviewing residents. Pretty soon the neighborhood was in an uproar about the ritualistic murder of cats by some sick individual; perhaps a Satan worshiper, perhaps a teen aged serial killer or killers to be. The local spokesperson from the Humane Society weighed in, adding to the speculation, and warning that the authorities should crack down on the miscreant, because people that abuse animals are just one step away from abusing people.

Some time later it came to light that the cats were killed by a fox that had wandered out of the hills into town looking for a meal. The fox would bite the cats in half to make it easier to drag back to its den.

OK check out that website .. I’ve been compiling these links .. there have been some additional more recent incidents as well .. notably dogs found skinned alive in Pennsylvania and kittens found beheaded and gutted in Queensland Australia. The Salt Lake City / Denver incidents were covered up by the fox explananation. No one really bothered to conduct an internet search .. my suspicion is that the various agencies where just happy to have it cease and desist. It tends to happen around Sept. Oct. but not always. The Hallowe’en cultist-inspired explanation (although popular) does not withstand closer review (see first article). There was a 60,000 dollar reward being offered in the Toronto Ontario Canada cat mutilation case .. I effectively informed them of the scope and magnitude of this phenomenon (not to mention what’s responsible). It was kept under the radar of prolonged public scrutiny. Again people were relieved it stopped - never any arrests in ANY of these cases. Or if there are arrests the suspects had to be released as the attacks on cats continued while the suspect was incarcerated. I predicted that in the Kelowna Cat mutilation epidemic. It must have raised some eyebrows at the RCMP precinct as I told them ‘don’t expect these attacks to stop just because you’ve arrested some one’. Sure enough … they had to release their suspect the following day. It’s pretty scary stuff - that’s for darn sure.

    Hello Le Horla:
In my neighborhood , Northern New Jersey, they shoot anything that moves during hunting season and residents are quick to report any infraction of any hunting rule.
Any animal that moves could be shot, but not legally.
Condensed hunting you might call it.
We have coyotes, because I hear them howl at night loudly!
    And they get shot.
We have bears, because I see them destroy my bird feeders.
    And they get shot.
But there are no mysterious killings of animals.
I do believe that human serial murderers start with pets, but I don’t believe
missing pets are killed only by serial murderers.

    Le Horla,

I have a comment held in the queue because of some seriously bad linkage html. If you’d like to try it again without the links, I’ll let that one through. But I’m not putting this one on with these problems.
