		<description>Let&#039;s not forget that just one year later, in 1797, it was discovered that France was interferring in our political system.  They were mad because we had signed a treaty with Great Britain.  The John Jay Treaty resolved leftover issues from the War of American Independance and let to more peaceful trade with Britain.

France felt betrayed and worked for the political interests of Jefferson and James Madison who opposed the treaty.  As the treaty broke down in 1803 (Who was President?) tensions increased.  The end result was the war of 1812.  Washington more than a little prescient there as well</description>
