(My guilt, by the way, arose not from the un-PC-ness of the books, but from my puritanism). I don't like Flashman, and I think I'm not intended to. He is not only a great coward and hypocrite--he's one of the great sufferers of literature, dying 'a thousand deaths" again and again. I enjoy watching him squirm, because he deserves it so.
