Jim Geraghty over at NRO believes Fred Thompson will withdraw from the race for the Republican nomination soon.
I spoke to one of my Thompson sources.
He's still with his ailing mother. "He's just being a good son."
He has not spoken to any other campaign or any other candidates, nor does he intend to at this time.
He will not endorse, I am told by this source close to Thompson.
I am also told, "he has no interest in a vice presidency or a cabinet position." At an "appropriate time" he will outline his plans for the near future.
That is a shame, frankly.
It is unfortunate, his solid principles simply cannot complete with a dumb-downed pop-celebrity-struck public who needs lots of Happy chemicals to get their feel-good fix satisfied.
The only cure for such addiction is a high Misery Index. Since I’m not hooked on the Happy juice I can survive the next four years without the pain of withdrawal so I don’t care so much anymore. At least I did my best while the opportunity lasted and have no regrets.
Too bad he didn’t do better. Fred was my close #2 candidate.
I hope his mother recovers, too.
