Barack Obama has not managed to secure the Democratic nomination yet, despite the disarray in camp Clinton. But he is succeeding – spectacularly – at enraging American allies with his sanctimony. First he alienates Canada and Mexico with his increasingly strident anti-NAFTA rhetoric. Now he is figuratively urinating on Europe's shoes. Michael Van Der Galien is righteously furious.
This post is written by an angry European who has had enough of Barack Obama’s silly rhetoric. Perhaps Americans should elect a non-diplomatically disabled person?
Better late than never I suppose. Jeralyn reports that “[a]fter last week’s debate when Barack Obama acknowledged he hadn’t held a single hearing on Nato and Afghanistan during his year as chair of the European Affairs subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee because he was running for President, he’s now giving lectures to Europe in his campaign speeches.”Yeah, we won’t notice that you never mention us nor that you ever held a hearing on this subject Barack. We’re like that: we tend to ignore bad information like that coming from America.
We don’t of course.
And then when he finally mentions us look at what he has to say:
[He said] European governments had to pull their weight in Afghanistan and not rely so much on the United States to do the “dirty work” against Taliban fighters…..
He said the US needs more support from its NATO allies in Afghanistan and implied Germany should lift its ban on combat operations in the dangerous south.
He’s great diplomatically isn’t he? “pull their weigh”? “not rely so much on the United States to do the dirty work”?
Michael is very, very angry, trust me. No, better yet, go read it all so you can savor the full flavor of his rage. The left loves to accuse George W. Bush of being a cowboy. If anything, Barack Obama is quite a lot worse at diplomacy. At the rate he is going, the only place he'll put the US in international circles is in the doghouse. Heck, he's already alienating our most important friends while promising to meet with our worst enemies.

This is going to be a source of a great deal of fun in the fall.In a day or two I’m going to be posting an analysis of Obama’s meddling in Kenya’s election, the one that led to 250 deaths, on my blog. Keep an eye out for it, it’ll be full of useful tidbits. Did you know that during Obama’s trip to Africa in 2006, he spoke on behalf of the opposition candidate, Raila Odinga, who is his cousin? And that members of his campaign put Odinga in touch with Dick Morris, who ran Odinga’s campaign? Think it’s sound judgment for US Senators to meddle in foreign elections? And now, after fumbling a little hanky-panky with the Canadians, not to mention ticking off the folks from whom we import 2 million barrels of oil a day TARIFF FREE, now the mook is taking a leak on our European allies. Never mind that he’s correct about Afghanistan — there’s a reason GWB hasn’t been saying this out loud, and the reason is that GWB actually understands diplomacy.Of course, the claim that Bush destroyed our reputation was never more than partisan hog wallow anyhow. But Obama is going to make Bush look like a freakin’ genius before we all vote in the fall. And I’ll publish every little snippet.
The Eurocrats better put a cork in it. Don’t they know that the Messiah has come?
Mwalimu,I’m confused. Are you referring to Barack or Michelle?
I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but Obama is right, and this Euroweenie is dead wrong. Yeah, pull their weight, something they never did throughout the 20th century, and are unlikely to ever do.
But Obama brings Hope and Change and tells Americans the proper way to raise their children.
My question is, if Obama is defeated and makes the moonbats howl with vicious crazy hate against McCain will Europeans, Canadians and various other allies start to defend a Republican or will they be anti-American as usual?
Further, how will Hollywood profit without their anti-American product?
Rightwingprof is correct. Obama, broadly speaking, is right. Dutchman is being overly sensitive.
I point this out as an example of a real problem. Obama is openly insulting allies while openly expressing willingness to embrace enemies.

Gaius, first let it be said that you and I are likely in lock step agreement on the type of foreign policy Obama would conduct. In this instance however, all Obama did was echo what Sec. Def. Gates has been saying about NATO. It was a campaign speech for crying out loud. He is running for POTUS not President of the Netherlands. I can hardly fault him for not taking time to praise the Dutch every time he comments on Afghanistan. What Obama and Gates have said is true. If you can’t tell your allies the truth, what CAN you tell them? So I guess where we disagree is on the definition of "insult". As for transAtlantic insults, recall the mountains of insults heaped on the USA the last 8 yrs by no less than European heads of state. I guess when the insults come our way we are just supposed to suck it up, but when a perceived insult comes from our side it is another matter.
"I guess when the insults come our way we are just supposed to suck it up, but when a perceived insult comes from our side it is another matter."
feeb, you hit the proverbial nail on the head with that one! We are always everyone’s favorite target but we are ALWAYS supposed to be politically correct and politically sensitive when we say anything about ANYONE! The only time we can get away with saying anything the least bit negative about anyone (or nation) is when it’s someone that everyone else dislikes even more than they do us, like Sadam.
