Sam, according to Dawn Wells, the lyrics were changed at the insistance of Bob Denver. For what it’s worth, it’s on the wikipedia page, but I also saw her say this on TV one time.
And I’m with the rest of you guys in prefering Mary Ann to Ginger. They were both beautiful, but Mary Ann/Dawn had that friendly, open smile that I still prefer.
As for the crime — her story would be more belivable if her driving hadn’t been so erratic.

Mary Ann was definitely a hottie on the program. That is probably why she eventually got her name in the theme song. Thousands and thousands of horny adolescent boys (me included) will not be denied.On another subject, the residuals for the show must not be very lucrative. Driggs, Idaho is over the Teton Pass from the Jackson Hole valley, and has become a place for folks working in Jackson to live – because the cost of housing is so high in Jackson due to the influx of rich out-of-staters. If she is living in Driggs, it is perhaps because she doesn’t have the monetary resources to go over the mountains where the rich folks live. Don’t get me wrong, the Driggs area is a nice area, just not a resort area like Jackson.
