Sylvia & Christine, thank you for your kind words. I'm a bit under the weather today, so this cheers me up no end.

I'd have to believe most historically black congregations would be horrified at the content of TUCC, if they only knew about it. But, it is really the left-o-center media that is exasperating me. I've found the use of Dr. King in a attempt to legitimize hate particularly offensive. And its being done by people who ought to know better. But there is something in the air this primary season that has normally sane people taking complete leave of their senses.

Rich, I second Sylvia's compliment. I read it earlier at Iconic Midwest and thought it was well written and spot on. I made similar (but less articulate) argument at TMV last week, that this theology is heretical to Christianity, and got scolded by another commenter who basically said "Oh, who's to say that one person's theology is right or wrong." Either I made the point poorly or she completely refused to see it (I'd say a bit of the first and a lot of the second, based on past encounters with that commenter :-) )Sylvia: Your friend's comment reminded me of something I'd been thinking; I would imagine that there are plenty of black Christians in Chicago who feel that way about TUCC, and I'm wondering if we'll start hearing from them. Is there generally much 'speaking out' about this, or is it just that people vote with their feet and their dollars going into another church's collection basket?

Rich, beautifully written. We'll be discussing your post at supper tonight. I'm printing it for my daughter's file of well-written essays. Thank you!
We lived in Chicago in the 90's and Wright and Trinity had an exceptionally bad reputation -- one of our [Black Christian] friends said they were "Black racists." He also had some comments about "not needing a Black Bible" which made us wonder what was going on in that church.

When I claimed that I was Howard Hughes' sole heir, some actually had the audacity to put it to the test. What a rip! It is so unfair and politically incorrect.
