Barack Obama's attack on small town Americans from Pennsylvania has erupted out of the blogosphere and onto the wire services. Reuters has posted his remarks for the folks who still get their media the old-fashioned way. This one is not going to go down the media memory hole anytime soon.
"Pennsylvania doesn't need a president who looks down on them," she said at a rally in Philadelphia. "They need a president who stands up for them, who fights for them, who works hard for your futures, your jobs, your families."
Obama, an Illinois senator, was reported to have told a crowd at a San Francisco fundraiser earlier this week he understood why the struggles of residents in towns hard hit by manufacturing job losses would make them bitter.
"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama was quoted as saying by the Huffington Post.
"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.
Terms like 'elitist' and 'condescending' are all over the blogosphere over this one. Now the major media has it and all of the services will have to run with it now that Reuters has. There are going to be a lot of very unhappy residents of small towns all across the United States over this one. As I posted earlier, this could be the Obama pratfall Clinton needed to stay in.
By the way, don't think the Obama campaign is sweating bullets right now? I'd bet they are spinning overtime right now trying to defuse this one in the media. The problem is that the actual words of the candidate don't allow for much spinning.

I dunno, Gaius – He Who Has No Middle Name survived the "typical white person" slur against his own grandmother. He survived the non-apology about Rev. Wright. Already the MSM is trying to spin this away. Here are quotes from al-AP:
In the midst of an assault from his rivals, a defensive Barack Obama said Friday that many working-class Americans are angry and bitter over economic inequalities and have lost faith in Washington — and, as a result, vote on the basis of other issues such as gun protections or gay marriage.
And:
In Terre Haute, Obama chided McCain for not responding promptly to the home mortgage crisis and criticized Clinton for voting for a bankruptcy bill supported by credit card companies.

Got it? It’s not really the Messiah’s fault after all! The unwashed heathen (disgusting, shiftless, worthless rabble that they are) are like sheep that have gone astray, and He and He alone can rescue us because He is our Shepherd. Only He has the wisdom to lead us out of the bondage of our sins. It is up to us to see the error of our ways, lay down our fishing nets, follow Him, and make Michelle proud again.
Was this speech by Obama spoken at the Getty Oil fundraiser held on SF Billionaire Row?

Tone deaf that is what Obama is. He was speaking to the enlighten left liberals with this drivel that economic hard times drives people to guns, religion and bigotry toward illegal immigrants. To them this explains why people like such horrible items like guns, and religion. To liberal these are all negative items; to more conservative or normal people these are part of our culture.
It is like that without the hard times these people would see that religion is silly and guns are evil. This is typical liberal arrogance that we have seen time and time again. Together with the Hate America mantra of Obama’s pastor and wife. Obama’s refusal to put his hand on his heart during the Star Spangle Banner or wear a flag. The pro Palestinian slant and how we are evil for getting rid of the worlds horrible dictator.
I have to say that it is obvious to many of us that the Liberal left and their Democratic allies are sympathizing with the enemy. They want us to fail just to show Bush has failed. They are willing and hoping for Americans and Iraqi’s to die just to justify their position. Americans can disagree on tactics but the Liberal left are truly looking more and more like traitors.
The disgust and dripping sense of superiority, pure condescension of Obama is getting more obvious every day. This is the man the Democratic Party wants. I can just say despite the errors and failures of the Republicans, this attitude will stampede Democrats to voting for McCain. Hillary would never have been so tone deaf to insult the voters this way.
None of this will make a dimes worth of difference to the true believers. But it will likely change a few minds of swing voters. I hope.

And Obama claims the words were ill-considered. Exactly how _do_ you carefully phrase calling a wide swath of America a bunch of racist, redneck morons?
He might just as well have come out and directly used the term "poor white trash" because that is exactly what he was saying. Unfortunately, as I said on the earlier post, this will be a non-issue because the MSM will not allow it to grow legs. They will quash it before this weekend is over.
I had his number way back in December of 2006, but as for the lately smitten amongst our fellow Americans, better late than never. For me the shock of it all was that Hillary said something wonderful and heartfelt — morally and politically credible and oh, such sweet music to our ears — in response to her Democratic opponent’s gaffe:
