Gee, Sorry You’re Offended….You Hick
Some of my regular readers think Obama will skate from the damage he caused himself with his "small town" comments. I maintain that this one will leave a mark. Time will tell, of course, but I suspect that this indicates how badly Obama is miscalculating the cumulative damage he is doing to himself by refusing to back away from some things:
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — Barack Obama said Saturday that if he has offended people with comments he made almost a week ago where he labeled small town Pennsylvanians "bitter" and that they "cling to guns and religion" then he regrets it.
"Obviously, if I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that," Obama said in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal, according to a transcript provided by his campaign.
"The underlying truth of what I said remains, which is simply that people who have seen their way of life upended because of economic distress are frustrated and rightfully so," he told the North Carolina newspaper. "And I hear it all the time when I visit these communities."
Leftwing elitism on full display. "Gee, sorry you're offended, but I'm right, of course. You're a bunch of over-religious, gun nuts with severe xenophobia."
There are many reasons I oppose Obama. His smug self-righteousness is one of them. That is on full display here - and I think it will hurt him with a lot of people in this country. His non-apology will not defuse this, either. And the media can only do so much to hide his gaffe. Even the New York Times has reported on this. I think the damage this time is quite real.
Again, time will tell.

To be honest, I think this plus the Wright fiasco has cost the Democrats the presidency, if Obama is the nominee, and it may have cost him the nomination, if the superdelegates agree with me about the general election. Question is, where do they turn? Lady Macbeth? The Goracle? The Party has no good choices right now.Somewhere, McCain is smiling.

Boy, pretty much every blog I have been to today is non-stop Obama and his "bitter" remark. I think I see a few beads of flop sweat on his brow in the pictures. Maybe I’m just hoping . . .

I keep thinking back to the 1992 campaign, and William Jefferson Clinton’s I-never-inhaled gaffe. Combined with his womanizing and his draft-dodging (which made Dan Quayle look like General Patton by comparison), I thought that Slick was finished. I was wrong. That was the year that the magic of the Big Lie became entrenched in Democrat politics.
Now it is 2008, and that magic that allowed the Clintons to prosper is suddenly gone - transferred to He Whose Middle Name Must Not Be Mentioned by an adoring MSM. Don’t underestimate the ability of the Messiah’s cultists in the media to bury this (for that matter, don’t overestimate the GOP’s ability to confront the Messiah with this). It would not surprise me if He came out stronger because of it.

I keep thinking back to the 1992 campaign, and William Jefferson Clinton’s I-never-inhaled gaffe….The difference is that there is no Perot to siphon votes away. I believe that the cummilative affect of Wright, "First time in my life…", this "Bitter comment and who knows what else is going to push the vast majority of Regan Democrats and most independents to McCain . He is already strong with these groups and this stuff is about making it inevitable. Name a state that Bush took in 04 that Obama could take from McCain. Don’t see it happening unless the country has changed that much.

After seeing the news shows this morning where this was mentioned frequently (although some of them are already trying to spin it), I will admit I may have been wrong in my earlier statement that this would be a non-issue. It seems to have gained some legs - mostly due to the fact that the Hildebeast is climbing all over it. Unfortunately, this one will be hard to spin as long as anyone has access to his exact words. And his apology isn’t much better, basically "If I offended anyone I deeply regret it because saying what I believe is really damaging my campaign, but the poor white trash people I was talking about are still poor white trash and they need me to show them the way."

What person in their "Wright" mind would vote for Obama?
