Core Damage

Victor Davis Hanson says that the media and other Obama supporters are reaching the point of meltdown – The derangement is showing.

What we are seeing is a sort of meltdown in which the selection of Palin is associated with the first real possibility all summer that the messianic Obama may not necessarily ascend; that triggers a certain repulsion toward her in particular, and a general furor at the once likeable McCain (once likeable to present-day Obama’s supporters in the past sense that in 2000 he was going to lose, perhaps divide Republicans, and was not George Bush), which, in turn, can conjure up all sorts of no longer latent demons, going back to Vietnam onto to Iraq and the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

The problem (inter alia) with this vicious, loose use of “traitor” and “lie/liar/lying” and blanket condemnations of the US military is that it achieves the opposite of what the authors intend — and repelling most readers to such a degree that they are scared off from anything the writer seems to be advocating.

As Hanson points out, didn’t anyone learn from the attempt at trashing General Petraeus? The MoveOn crowd managed, with a single ad, to damage themselves and completely fail in their self-appointed task. Yet the media has proudly abandoned all pretense and is openly trying to defeat McCain and personally destroy Sarah Palin. Only ten days ago, Nick Cohen warned that the unhinged response of the left toward Sarah Palin would produce the opposite result that the left wanted. Yet it has gotten measurably worse in that period. He warned that the candidate’s friends could cost Obama the election.

No, Dems didn’t learn from their failed attempt to smear General Petraeus, they’re characteristically a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to self-awareness. Dems are so accustomed to MSM covering for their hysterical bouts of character assassination, they routinely display naked villainy fully expecting no adverse consequennces. Fools rush in where wise men fear to tread.

The thing for all voters to keep in mind, especially any who have not yet made up their minds, is if the Obamessiah panics this much at the simple selection of his opponent’s running mate, what’s going to happen if he’s elected when the first real crisis hits? There’s no teleprompter in the Oval Office.

I don’t know if the Left has enough time to take down Palin before the election. Saw a poll(albeit a skewed poll, oversampled with dems) showing her ‘favorables’ dropping. Assuming McCain wins in Nov, the attacks on poor little Sarah will not stop. I think they will pull out the template the used to make Newt Gingrich politically radioactive. The negativity will be nonstop. They have to render her a negligible force, and they won’t stop until they have succeeded.
