Flipper’s Revenge

He’s waited patiently for 45 years. At last, he has made his move and taken his revenge. That’s right, Flipper is in payback mode.

EDGEWATER, Fla. — Four people were riding in a boat off the coast of Volusia County on Thursday when a dolphin jumped out of the water and hit two of them in the chest. One woman had to be rushed to a local hospital with a possible broken collarbone.

Norman Howard came out of the hospital cut up, bandaged and bruised, but otherwise in remarkably good shape considering that his morning outing on a small 17-foot boat ended with a 9-foot, 400-pound dolphin in his lap.

“It was slapping me pretty, hard. It was throwing some good punches,” Howard said.

Well, of course he was, Mr. Howard. For 45 years he has been nursing that grudge about the original Flipper movie. This is payback for the spearing of a stunt dolphin.

On the other hand, just in case, we here at the Crabitat have taken the precaution of dolphin-proofing the place. Oh, sure, the neighbors are pointing and whispering about the submarine net draped over the house, but one can never be too careful. Even this far from the ocean.
