Things I Heard About

In Iowa, voters will have a chance to change the state constitution clause that bans an, “idiot or insane person” from voting.

It’s nice that they’re going to let their governor vote. (Read the linked article to see what prompted that comment).

On to Massachusetts! Voters there get to decide whether or not they should be paying state income taxes. And it is looking like it is going to be a very, very close vote.

Most interesting fact: Out of state teachers unions are the major funding source for the very, very well financed opposition to the measure. They have poured at least one million dollars into the campaign and are willing to spend even more.

Gee, where do they get that kind of money? Oh, wait. They are paid with state tax money……

And finally, the stock markets rebounded today. The Dow jumped 936 points – the biggest percentage jump since 1932.

Word is that the Obama campaign is demanding a recount.

it’s not often that this blog makes me laugh out loud, thanks Gaius, you made my evening.

And to think that it comes as a reaction to the biggest ever in this country nationalization of the banks! We’re all now preferred shares owners of Bank of America, Morgan Chase, etc, etc. Even to me, who’s somewhat on the left of the spectrum, this is kind of scary.

Don’t count the chickens though yet – last time I checked the DOW is -33% for the year. And we’re below the point where Clinton left off…
