Signs And Portents

There is a wealth of news out there on exit polls, early data, chicken entrails and tea leaves.

There are, however, few facts. Polls are still mostly open.

Driving home from work tonight on our way to cast our votes, NPR started to report on exit poll results. My wife – very non-political – reached over and turned off the radio, saying she did not want to hear any of that exit poll crap. I agreed and said that I thought the practice should be banned. And also that I thought no returns should be released anywhere until all polls had closed all across the nation. Period. Or, better yet, impose a 24 hour delay in any results being released at all. She agreed.

That would make for some scintillating election night coverage from the networks.

It would also be a hell of a lot better than what the media has been doing to this country for many years. How about it, folks? That’s a nice, non-partisan thing we can all agree on.
