Caroline Kennedy Drops Out

In a surprise move, Caroline Kennedy has suddenly withdrawn her name from contention for Hillary Clinton’s former Senate seat. The New York Post is very surprised.

Her stunning move comes as sources revealed that Paterson had intended to appoint her to the now-vacant seat today.

The 51-year-old Camelot daughter’s decision removes the highest-profile name in the ring to step into Clinton’s seat, as she departs after getting confirmed as President Obama’s Secretary of State today.

The surprise decision leaves a crowded field of about 15 people, mostly elected officials, vying to replace Clinton – including Long Island Rep. Steve Israel, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, upstate Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

Frankly, I’m surprised, too. Despite her Camelot Valley Girl interview, I thought Paterson would knuckle under to the pressure. Call it the surprise of the day.

Now, if only Biden’s son can be given similar pressure…..

Aparently Paterson WAS going to knuckle under. She cited ‘personal reasons’ for her withdrawal. I’m suspicious, however. Let’s see if she suddenly moves out of New York to somewhere in Massachusetts. Her uncle’s seat will be available there soon and in that state a Kennedy IS royalty – she’d be a shoo-in without any dissent in Massachusetts.

Well, it’s too bad. She just doesn’t have the ankles to fill Hillary’s boots.

It is interesting to see the speculation over at PJM about Ms. Kennedy. Similar ideas to the ones presented above, and a few others as well. Living in Utah, my interest is purely in the entertainment value of the whole affair.
