Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell….
The Charge of the Light Brigade, Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
The latest Obama administration nominee to draw fire from the right is also drawing fire from the left. Charles “Chas” Freeman is being pounded from both sides. On the right many are denouncing his stance toward terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. (He is on record wanting to negotiate with them). From the left comes this attack: Freeman appears to be in favor of national ID cards. Can internal passports be far behind?
One new development, revealed here for the first time, which is likely to further damage Freeman’s already battered standing is that the former ambassador advocated creating a national identity system in the US as a part of the war on terror. During a 9/11 Commission interview, Freeman remarked that of three major changes the US government should make to effectively combat terror, one was that “the United States should implement a national identity system, so we better know who is who.”
I seldom agree with the folks who post over at HuffnPuffPo, but I agree this time. This guy should not be in any position of power. I don’t care who he worked for before.

Freeman also is on record saying the Chinese government acted too slowly and too lightly dealing with the Tiananmen Square protestors (http://tinyurl.com/b2pq2g) and that 9-11 was our fault (http://tinyurl.com/bcoyfj). He’s truly an appalling choice, and that’s saying something for this administration.
That man, Freeman, should be taken out and proclaimed a heavy metal fan.
National ID cards? Would they have to be shown to vote? Maybe that’s why the libs don’t want him around.
