Lightworker Humor

Barack Obama on Leno last night:

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he’s gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

“That’s very good, Mr. President,” Leno said sarcastically.

It’s “like the Special Olympics or something,” the president said.

Obama’s spokespeople have already apologized.

A good discussion about this over at Hot Air with Ed Morrisey and AllahPundit taking two different tacks on this. Morrisey quotes The Anchoress:

Sigh. One almost gets tired of saying it, but one must say it, still: Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would do with that, had Bush said it. Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would have done with the Irish PM Teleprompter gaffe (the press has helpfully embargoed the video, so Obama doesn’t have to see it playing 24/7, as Bush would have – had Bush so gaffed). Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would have done if Bush had given the Prime Minister of Great Britain a lousy pack of 50 “Classic” DVD’s that didn’t work in the UK?

Isn’t that nice? The network has embargoed the video. They wouldn’t want people to laugh at the Lightworker, would they?

Longtime readers know that I have a brother with Downs Syndrome, so I probably have some standing to be offended by this remark. I think it was thoughtless, but not really meant to offend.  I realize Obama was trying to make a self-depreciating joke, yet this is the kind of thing that gets politicians into trouble all the time. If Obama and his staff were actually “the best and the brightest“, this would never have happened.

What really bothers me is the way the network is shielding Obama. That is what should get people angry about this.

If Obama had any executive business experience at all, he would have been required to take a course where they teach people how to speak in non-offensive ways. Then again, it may not have permeated his gray matter…

If my husband made a statement like that while in the office, he’d lose his job. Poof. Leaders are supposed to lead, not denigrate!

It depresses me that we have a president who seems to have no sense of cause and effect. I’m beginning to wonder if there is some truth to the paranoiacs’ slant of interpreting Obama’s actions as deviously intentional.

I thoroughly agree. This is what happens when the Chosen One goes without his teleprompter and someone to write what he’s supposed to say. Let him ad lib and he will insert his foot into his mouth bite down and chew vigorously every time!

On the contrary – this is exactly what we should expect from a government-run media. Or a media-run government, which is exactly the same thing.
