One Thing You Can Count On From The Obama Administration

They appear to be always ready to cozy up to an enemy and ever ready to insult an ally. Obama grinned and shook (T)Hugo Chavez’s hand for the cameras last week and Janet Napolitano  turned around and infuriated the Canadians this week.

The U.S. Homeland Security chief has clarified earlier remarks that suggested the 9-11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano made the comments during a media interview earlier this week, much to the chagrin of Canadians on both sides of the border.

In a release Tuesday night following the interview, she called Canada a “close ally and an important partner” and said she was simply misunderstood.

“I know that the September 11th hijackers did not come through Canada to the United States,” she said in the statement.

“There are other instances, however, when suspected terrorists have attempted to enter our country from Canada to the United States. Some of these are well-known to the public — such as the Millennium Bomber — while others are not due to security reasons.”

I think the operative word here is “attempted”. Canadian authorities appear to be able to catch the odd terrorist. Mexican authorities actively export all the illegals they can send across the border and make no effort to try to stop the flood. Or even to discourage it.

If anything, the Canadians deserve the respect of American officials for all the help they really do give us on border security. They have flown their fighter jets to protect us when many of ours were grounded. Not the back of America’s hand. Or rather, the back of this administration’s hand.

Obama has been showing them the back of his hand since the campaign when he insisted he would unilaterally change NAFTA because our partners (Canada being the biggest one) were taking unfair advantage of it. We have no closer friend and ally than our northern neighbor yet and no worse neighbor than our southern one and yet the Obama administration appears intent on snoggling up with the bad neighbor and systematically denigrating and insulting the good one. What is wrong with these people?
