Sorry, J, there is no law on the books at this time that prevents bringing the Gitmo terrorists into the country. However, the Republicans in the Senate do have one ready to go if this is the decision Obama comes to.

I have been saying for a week now that this will be the Obamessiah's next major flip-flop - that he will decide to keep Gitmo open to house these 'detainees'. Why? Because he's finding out that no one, including all of his fellow Democrats that were screaming for the closing of Gitmo wants these animals brought into THEIR communities. Their own countries are vehemently refusing to take them back. What else can he do with them? Force them down the throats of an unwilling American community? Threaten sanctions against their home nations if they won't take them back? Put them all on a naval vessel and send them out to permanently cruise the ocean? His only REAL choice is to keep Gitmo open.

Has anyone noticed that every time he flip-flops on an issue it's to return to a policy established by the Bush administration? Usually a policy he vociferously opposed during the campaign. I find it interesting that while he keeps vindicating Bush policies, he keeps claiming that Bush was wrong about everything and his policy is better. And still the liberal press lets him get away with it.

There is no hope for the nitwits in congress. We can't keep the enemy in Gitmo, can't bring them into the country (there is a law already on the books covering this), so what do you think the nitwits will do? Why release them into the world.
The liberals in liberally-ruled (and I use the word "ruled" deliberately)states, release criminals, murders, rapists, etc., into our communities because the jails are too full....what do you think the congress will do?

Yes, illegal combatants are offered no protection under the conventions and may be shot in the field. This was, sadly, a common end to many of our soldiers in WWII caught in civilian clothes when trying to exfiltrate from enemy territory, such as escaping prisoners of war.

I suspect after all the problems associated with prisoners, we will see more of them shot "while attempting to escape" in the future than we saw in the past.

I thought Geneva conventions allowed for summary execution of illegal combatants? Why don't we start following the letter of the Geneva conventions and do precisely that?
