Unemployment

There have been several cases of Obama administration officials saying that the economy is showing signs of life.

Then there are the new unemployment figures for last week:

In the week ending May 16, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 631,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 643,000. The 4-week moving average was 628,500, a decrease of 3,500 from the previous week’s revised average of 632,000.

Signs of “life” – in a George Romero movie sort of way, apparently.

Yeah. And I am still looking for a job. The last one was building those “evil” corporate aircraft. There are almost 10,000 of us in Kansas that have lost jobs in the aircraft industry, most of them after the “accession” of the 44th CinC.
    I have had 3 interviews since I was laid off on 26 February. 3, count them, 1, 2, 3………….
I may be looking at a couple of decent chances next week. I have an interview on next Tuesday for a route/sales position with a well known snack food company. On the 28th and 29th, Bell Helicopter will be in town looking for workers. There is a small catch, it requires moving to Fort Worth or Amarillo. I can do this. But the ad that was in the Wichita Eagle may not have generated the response hoped for because of this. It was an apply at the company website and wait for an invitation. Wednesday and Thursday it was on the evening news.
I can say with some authority, that a lot of these workers would not fare well building military helicopters and the tilt-rotor V-22. And the “Hope and Change” mindset is ever prevalant.
This is an aircraft town. It bills itself as The Air Capital. But since it is now verboten to use corporate aircraft, by the left, a recovery here may be long in coming.

And I was building those carbon-dioxide belching personal transports, and have been looking for a job for over a couple of months.

Hope and change – I certainly hope there is a change and soon – otherwise, change is all I’m going to have in my pocket.
