HELP! The Computer Ate Pooh!

Or at least his head! (See last picture).

On a more serious note, one of these flash drives could be concealed in almost anything. (I happen to have five flash drives in my pocket at the moment – all used for different things.) I also have one in my work computer bag that is part of a carabiner-type clip. The drive part of the device can be pulled out of the clip and is very, very small. It could easily be hidden in almost anything.

Side note: One of my co-workers inserted a flash drive into his computer at work. And promptly uploaded a trojan onto the network. If you are using Windows XP then disable the Auto-Run feature or the same can happen to you. Instructions here. It is considerably easier to do if you are running XP Professional rather than XP Home version, but still not hard. If you have never edited the registry before, however, take it to someone who has.

  1. Five? I guess you don’t have one for the souped up, dual eight track drive Timex-Sinclair running Ubuntu yet.

    :)

Sadly, there is no USB on that powerhouse. I am, however, having great success with a slightly modified Edison Phonograph wax cylinder +/- RW drive.

Had you heard that there were a batch of digital “picture frames” coming out of China that had pre-installed viruses, ready to install themselves on your system at the first USB hotplug? Charming, I thought. Makes you wonder how much liabilty the manufacturer would have in that case, presuming they were even touchable – are PRC companies like say Norinco subject to foreign tort claims in China?
