Just What Do You Think You’re Doing, Dave?

AllahPundit has the videos of David Letterman trying to out-Sullivan Andrew Sullivan:

I bet Ashley Herzog’s bummed he didn’t pull this a day earlier, huh? It would have made a sweet addition to her latest column. The best part: Letterman wondering why Slutty Flight Attendant didn’t stop by the show.

I guess if you can’t make ‘em laugh anymore, you might as well make ‘em wince. You missed your calling as a writer for Playboy, Dave.

The vicious, personal, obscene and highly unfunny attack on a young woman who is NOT a public figure should draw serious fire from everyone.

Bristol Palin is not a politician, not a media star, not anything other than an 18-year old young woman being attacked by a multi-millionaire media “star” of a late night television show. Her only “sin” that drew Letterman’s vitriol is that she happens to be related to someone Letterman wanted to humiliate. (Who happens to be another woman, but at this point, who’s counting the misogyny disguised as “cutting edge” humor any more?)

The network deserves letters and phone calls on this.

I will not hold my breath waiting for outrage from the left that claims to champion women.

But at least we now know why Letterman’s production company is called Worldwide Pants.

It takes really, really, really big pants to hold an ass the size of Letterman.

(Yeah, I used that line here at the Crabitat. It needed to be said, despite the comment policy. Sorry for the 2001: A Space Odyssey reference that started the post. I needed a title.)

UPDATE: Jim Treacher just caught this, something I had missed. The daughter Sarah Palin took to the baseball game was NOT Bristol. It was Willow.

Who is 14.

Got that? 14 years old. A little girl. Not a public official, not a public figure.

And Letterman made a “joke” about Sarah Palin’s daughter getting “knocked up” during the game.

This crossed a line and CBS – and Letterman – need their feet held to the fire on this. CBS needs to apologize and Letterman – an even bigger ass than I originally thought – needs to be fired. Publicly.

UPDATE: Via Memeorandum. Exactly one blog I would consider left-leaning, John Cole’s Balloon Juice, has weighed in thus far on Letterman – calling him a “Cad”.  While I think that is pretty mild,  I applaud at least the recognition that Letterman crossed a line here.

Calling For A Do-Over

None other than the panel created to oversee the Federal TARP program is now calling for a mulligan on the so-called “stress tests” that banks were recently subjected to by the Obama administration. The Congressional Oversight Panel is pointing out that unemployment is already much higher than the worst case scenario banks were tested against.

Banks that were stress tested by the government earlier this year should undergo another round of examinations, a government watchdog group said Tuesday, amid signs that the U.S. economy may be deteriorating faster than first expected.

In its latest report to lawmakers, the Congressional Oversight Panel pointed to the unemployment report for the month of May as a sign that the stress tests were not stressful enough.

Even as the pace of job losses slowed during the month, the unemployment rate surged to a 26-year high of 9.4%. Banking regulators that devised the stress tests had said in their most “adverse” case scenario that the jobless rate would hit 8.9% in 2009.

The article points out that the panel’s chair, Elizabeth Warren, is one of the members calling for the do-over. Warren is not exactly what you would call a right-wing reactionary. She is a contributer to the Huffington Post.

Obamanomics is under fire from both the left and the right.
